As it drapes itself lazily around tree-bound islands and along the shore, the lough promises one of Ireland’s most beautiful and evocative settings for golf. Overlooking it all is Concra Wood Golf and Country Club in Castleblayney Co. Monaghan. Golf Practice Facilities. Concrawood Golf Club has arguably the best golf practice facilities in the area.
Concrawood will be especially remembered for many of its holes: the par four 3rd, which sweeps gently towards the lakeside green; the double dogleg par five 4th with its terrifying approach to a water-protected green; and the valley-like 8th, which falls from the tee and then arcs up to the green. These are but 3 holes of particular note on the front 9.
The back 9 makes even more of an impression. The dramatic 10th offers an introduction to yet another part of Lough Muckno, the par 3 12th is a match for any in Ireland, while the 15th and 16 offer challenging tee shots across the lake. And yet with so much space you will find yourself enchanted by every hole’s intimate embrace and a peacefulness that shelters you from other golfers.
